Jake Birkness is an undergraduate student at Carleton University, pursuing an Aerospace Engineering degree in the Space Systems Design stream. He is currently an Assembly, Integration, and Test (AI&T) intern, assisting with the InspireSat and GigaBIT projects.
Jake brings experience from a 15-month internship at MPB Communications in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, where he worked on the design and drafting of optical enclosures for space applications, and developed mechanical shock and vibration test systems for space qualification.
At Carleton, Jake recently completed his Capstone project work, during which he served as Co-Lead of the Rocket-Propelled Wind Tunnel project. Jake is also involved with the Carleton Mechanical and Aerospace Society, where he has served as Vice-President External and Events Director.
This summer, Jake is participating in the Zenith Canada Pathways Fellowship, which involves mentorship and attendance of a summit in Montreal, alongside his internship. He is very excited for the work to come at SST and to make meaningful contributions to Canada’s space industry.
